14.09.13 - Mens 1s vs Chard (Away)

A Ben Ayres hat-trick sealed an impressive 5-1 win over Chard for Teign Men’s 1st XI as they continue their unbeaten pre-season.

Last weeks’ impressive 1-1 home draw with Oakhampton was followed up this week with a commanding performance on the road against Chard as Teign continue to adapt to a higher standard of opposition following last seasons’ promotion.

The game started evenly with both teams exchanging goal mouth opportunities before Teign finally took the lead through striker Ayres, latching on to a glorious through-ball from Henry Burningham. Chard equalised following a strong counter-attack but Teign quickly regained the lead through Dominic Spayne, finishing a square ball from Ayres at close range. Teign then took a two goal advantage into the interval through Burningham, finishing from a short corner.

Chard heads dropped and they didn’t threaten in the second half as Teign grew in confidence. Ayres added two more goals to complete his hat-trick, but Teign were wasteful and could have added much more to their total.

Teign complete their pre-season with a friendly against ECV Hornets on Saturday.

07.09.13 - Ladies 1s - Exe Tournement

1st game vs Bude (2-0 win) Michelle Judge had to start as our 11th player as 2 players were running late! We had the majority of play, first goal was from a PC when Grace deflected home Jackie's fierce strike on the left post, 2nd was a quick free hit to Jackie who sent a dream ball hard into the D for Kate to deflect into the goal. The heavens opened on us and we spent the rest of the day like drowned rats!

2nd game vs ISCA (2-0 loss) Much faster game from the start, Teign did a lot of chasing although had there moments testing ISCA's keeper. ISCA finished their chances well.

3rd game vs Mannamead (5-0 win)
Teign had to win to ensure they went through to the semi final as runners up to ISCA. Teign had all the play and goals flowed, Jackie opening the scoring with a straight strike from a PC, then Grace made it 2 through a lovely move round the right baseline by Kate who pulled the ball back up to grace who carefully placed the ball into the left corner. The third and forth both came from PC's, 1 from Kate who pounced on a rebound from Jackie's strike and the forth from Rosie P taking a rebound from Rachel's strike. The final goal came from a run from Jackie, taking on two players before burying the ball in the back of the net.

Teign then had to hot foot it over to St Peter's pitch to play Plymouth Marjons in the semi final. Teign started slow, tired legs were evident and Marjons found themselves 2-0 up at half time despite some great defending by Teign. Teign came back out fighting in the 2nd half and had the majority of play but only managed to pull back 1 goal through a run down the left from Kate who crossed a bullet into the D at hip height for Grace to deflect home the goal of the day!

All in all, a good performance by Teign in their first friendly fixture of the season and it was nice to have Hannah Walsh and Nikki Taylor back in the squad. Next sat they play Plymouth Marjons again in a friendly at home 12o'clock start.
