Teign maintained their one hundred percent home record with
a 3-0 win against East Devon A, retaining their place at the top of the table
as the winter break approaches.
In what was a close game from start to finish against an
experienced East Devon side, Teign had to ensure their quality shone when it
mattered. Whilst the game moved quickly from end to end and the visitors had a
fair proportion of the possession, Teign held territorial superiority. They
converted this into a scoreboard lead midway through the first half when Ryan
Bougourd showed his neat cricket skills, dispatching a high cross to gully,
which in happened to be the far corner of the net.
Before the break Teign added their second as midfield
maestro Henry Burningham fired in a dangerous pass to the back post which an
East Devon defender unwittingly deflected in. Needless to say, Burningham
claimed the goal.
Pivotal to the final result was a solid defensive
performance that limited to East Devon to just one shot on goal in the entire
match, giving a solid platform for their attack to build on. This was never
more tested then in the second half as East Devon threw more men forward in
search of a way back into the match. It was to no avail however, as another
textbook goal from striker Ben Ayres sealed the win. He latched onto a
through-ball and dived into a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, squeezing the
ball over the line.
Teign wrap up the first half of the season with a trip to
Caradon this weekend.
