A comfortable home win against Bude A saw Teign Men’s 1st
XI extend their lead at the top of Southern Division 2 to four points. A brace
of goals each from Teign’s top three strikers saw a convincing 6-0 win.
At this stage of the season the league table doesn’t lie and
with just six points and an unpleasant goal difference, Bude travelled to Teign
fearing the worse. Surprisingly however, a lacklustre first half from Teign
provided the visitors with some hope. They conceded vast portions of territory
and possession but proved to be awkward for Teign to break down, with the home
side only finding the net twice through Ben Ayres and George Burningham, despite
countless opportunities.
Teign regrouped at half time and reconsidered their tactics,
resulting in a much more fluid second half. Further goals came through Ben
Ayres, then a double from Richie Fisher, before George Burningham grabbed his
second from the penalty spot. Teign had
a few more goals disallowed and the Bude keeper made a string of impressive
saves, which kept the final score to 6-0.
Already top of the table going into the match, Teign saw
their lead extended as third placed Tavistock beat second placed Marjons B.
Teign are now four points clear and face Tavistock at home in a few weeks’ time.
This weekend their travel to USHC Plymouth.
