09.11.13 - Ladies 1s vs Bude (Away)

Bude 0 v 1 Teign
With a few players missing this weekend, a depleted Teign team travelled to Bude desperate for a win to lift them out of the relegation zone.
The game was high tempo from the start and a strong confident Bude side maintained possession well and created chances from the first whistle. Grace Bruce and Rachel Thorne stepped into defence for Teign and were called into action instantly with GB deflecting a shot wide on the right post. Bude continued to push for an early goal to take advantage of an unsettled Teign side but Teign defended well and kept them out.
As the game progressed, Teign began to settle and build possession through midfield although finding holes in the Bude defence was proving difficult. Noteworthy performances from Becky Gallagher, Megan Bruce and Katie Emmerton as they settled into the team well after being called up from the 2nd team.
Just before the half time whistle an early ball from Claire Rochelle fell fortunately to Katie Rochelle who managed to break away from her defender and drive into the D, as the goalkeeper came out she picked her spot and buried the ball in the top left corner of the goal.
Teign knew the game was far from over and a frustrated Bude side came out strong looking for the equalising goal but Teign defended tirelessly. Player of the match GB covered ground well and made some crucial interceptions whilst Hazel Tranchant made some superb saves in the Teign goal. After a series of penalty corners to Bude, Teign were forced to have a reshuffle in defence as Shannon Keating bravely took a drag flick to the head and was forced to sit out for the rest of the game.
Teign’s best chance at securing the win came from a lovely move down the right as BG pulled the back up across goal for Megan Bruce to place her shot just inches wide of the right post. As the final whistle blew, a huge sigh of relief was evident throughout the Teign side. An important 3 points for Teign and hopefully a start to climbing back up the league table.
Next week they face Clevedon at home 12 o clock start.
