Teign 2 - Somerset Gryphons 2
With nothing but pride riding on the game; the sun shined
for Teign in their penultimate game of the season as they took a well
deserved point from a friendly and fast paced meeting with Somerset Gryphons.
Gryphons arrived early with a large youthful squad and
looked eager and confident to get the game under way, the game was fast paced
and exciting from the start with chances going a miss at each end. It was
Gryphons that broke the deadlock late in the 1st half to take the lead when a
unfortunate ball bobbled off Hazel Tranchant's pads and spun back into the
goal.
Teign regrouped at half time and came out hard in the 2nd
half in search of the equaliser, Laura Clark and Katie Rochelle had multiple
chances but the fast and confident Gryphon keeper was proving impossible to
beat. The break finally came from a quick free hit taken by Claire Rochelle who
found Laura on the left post, a goal mouth scramble saw Grace Bruce diving on
the floor to get the final touch over the line, 1-1.
Play continued to shift from end to end with Hazel Tranchant
making some magnificent saves which earned her joint man of the match with
defender Jane Rochelle.
Gryphon's took the lead once more with a well
worked short corner routine leaving the Teign defence dumbfounded but Teign
didn't give up and kept pressing for the equaliser. Becky Gallagher's hard work
down the right earned her a short corner which Claire managed to convert from a
rebound. Both teams fought till the end looking for the winning goal but ran
out of time as the final whistle blew, a fair result in a match that could have
gone either way.
Next week Teign travel to ISCA in search of a win to finish
the season on a high.
