Fisher Smashes Four as Teign Start With a Win
Four goals and a man of the match performance from Richie
Fisher secured an opening day win over ECV Hornets B for Teign Men’s 1st
XI.
Teign began the game at a distinct disadvantage as player
absences meant they had to play the entire match with only ten men. Despite
this they pressed early and were awarded a penalty flick as the ECV keeper took
down Ben Ayres in the penalty area. Fisher dispatched the flick and Teign took
a 1-0 lead into the interval.
The second half started with a fiercely contested penalty
flick decision in ECV’s favour and Teign keeper Oliver Robinson was unable to
stop the equaliser. Feeling aggrieved at the decision Teign rallied strongly
and quickly regained the lead as Tom Brooks feed Nick Holiday, who rounded the
keeper and slotted home from close range.
Remarkably the game saw a third penalty flick awarded and
Fisher added his second to give Teign a two goal lead. ECV briefly fought back,
responding with a goal from a short corner, but Teign dug deep and added two
more goals through Fisher to run away 5-2 winners.
Teign play their first home game of the season this weekend
as they entertain title rivals ISCA C.
