26.10.13 & 27.10.13 - Men's 1s Double-Header

Back to Back Wins Send Teign Second in the Table
Teign Men’s 1st XI won two games this weekend to go second in the table, two points behind leaders Tavistock. Teign scored 21 goals in two comfortable wins, greatly improving their goal difference and sending a message to the rest of the league in the process.
On Saturday Teign entertained Bodmin A; a team struggling for results following player departures from last season, which is never nice to see. They played with a lot of spirit and determination but having fielded youngsters playing their first game of hockey the result was inevitable. Teign scored quick goals to kill the game in the first five minutes then took a 7-0 lead into the interval. The second half only got worse for Bodmin as Teign racked up another nine goals, bringing the score to 16-0. Goals were scored by Jamie Hill, Jacob O’Connor, Dominic Spayne, Dave Jeffs, Jed Jackson, Henry Burningham (2), Tom Brooks (2), Ben Ayres (2) and George Buningham (5).
On Sunday Teign played the re-arranged opening day fixture against Cambourne SoM, who were only able to travel with ten men. Cambourne were well organised and technically gifted but clinical and ruthless attacking from Teign in the first half wrapped up the result in just twenty minutes as Teign took an insurmountable 3-0 lead that they held until half time, goals coming from Ben Ayres, Henry Burningham and Jed Jackson. Teign added two more in the second half through Tom Brooks and another from Ben Ayres, before Cambourne scored a well-deserved consolation goal.
This weekend Teign travel to Bude A hoping to keep the pressure on the league leaders Tavistock, who they face on 23rd November.
