Teign 2s 4 – Sidmouth and Ottery 2s 0
Teign 2s turned out early on a grey Saturday morning for
their home tie against Sidmouth and Ottery 2s. The team were in good
spirits despite losing their first 4 games of the season.
The home team started strong, using the ball to good affect
across the whole pitch. Steph Hall was using some great width and space to
generate momentum for Teign; this was supported by Lauren Hawkins and Tina Long
in the middle of the field.
Despite Teign getting the majority of the play, the
opposition still created chances and it was a strong defence of Steph Hall, Jo
Day and Mollie Robinson that kept Sidmouth and Ottery at bay. The opener for
Teign came from Lauren Hawkins who picked up the ball from some lovely linking
play between herself, Tina Long and Katie Emmerton. 1-0 Teign.
Teign kept pressing, using all their strength to keep
putting Sidmouth and Ottery under pressure. Lauren Hawkins took a
commanding role in the middle, playing slightly more attacking with Long in
support, it was Hawkins that found the back of the net again to make it 2-0 at
half time.
Half time allowed Teign to reflect on their strategy and put
down a solid plan to deal with how they would keep the pressure on, knowing
full well that Sidmouth and Ottery could work their back into the game.
With some strong passing from the whistle and great width
being created from the defence, the ball was fired in from a long cross from
the left, which found Becky Gallagher in the D, with quick reactions, Gallagher
attacked the ball in front of the keeper and at full stretch slotted the ball
in the goal.
With 10 minutes to go, Teign were awarded a penalty
corner. Jo Osborne injected to Long, who fired home the forth from a hard
struck straight strike.
Player of the Match went to birthday girl, Lauren Hawkins.
Teign now have a 2 week break before playing at home to Exe
3s.
