Teign 1
Westberries 2
Teign knew
the opening match of their league campaign against last season’s runners up was
going to be tough and a last minute goal saw the visitors take all three points
with a 1-2 win.
Teign
started the game positively with a good spell of possession and Katie Rochelle
opened up the scoring early on with a reverse stick strike from an early ball
from Rachel Thorne.
The game was
end to end with both teams having chances but it was Westberries next on the
score board after a quick break found their striker in the D who unleashed a
fierce shot that Hazel Tranchant could do little about leaving the score 1-1 at
half time.
Westberries
came out strong and dominated most of the play in the 2nd half as
tired Teign legs struggled to keep up with the pace, some great defending kept
Westberries at bay.
Players of
the match Amy Jones and Kate Rochelle linked well down the left and had the
umpire of played advantage Teign would have taken the lead as Jones’ goal on
the whistle was disallowed. With two minutes to go Teign would have been happy
with a point but a free hit to Westberries found a player on the right post to
deflect home the winning goal.
This Saturday Teign travel to Exe where they hope
to get some points on the board.
In other results, Teign Ladies 2s lost away to
Dartmouth 5-0 and Teign Ladies 3s drew an entertaining home tie against
Sidmouth & Ottery 4s 3-3.
