12.10.13 - Ladies 1s vs Newquay (Home)

Teign took the early lead against league leaders Newquay but couldn't contend with their fitness & strength in the 2nd half as the visitors ran out 3-1 winners.

Teign started strong with chances on goal in the first few minutes, Laura Clark back from injury put Teign in the lead after beating a defender and the goalkeeper with a great bit of skill. Things were looking positive for Teign with lots of attacking play in the first half but a few Newquay breaks could have easily levelled the scores if it were not for some solid tackling from Jackie Brooks and Shannon Keating.

Newquay came out stronger after the break and dominated most of the play leaving Teign chasing the game, it wasn't long before they equalised after a penalty corner found a Teign foot infront of goal resulting in a penalty flick that Hazel Tranchant could do little about.

Players of the match Laura Clark and Katie Rochelle worked well together up front but a solid Newquay defence cut out any chance of a winning goal. Newquay continued to press testing Teign's defence and their patience finally paid off when a Newquay player free at the top of the circle calmly placed the ball into the goal. Teign pushed for the equaliser but with the team tiring a mistake at the back saw Newquay pounce on a stray ball and bury the ball to secure the 3 points for the away side.

An off day for Teign but they will regroup and no doubt come back stronger next week when the travel to Blandford & Sturminster Newton.
